Expanded: baths, forum with an honorific gate (dedicated to Antoninus Pius) and three(!) Capitol temples, nymphaeum, theater
In the third century CE, the city replaces Thysdrus as main center of the region
c.300 CE: Arch of Diocletian
Byzantine churches: Basilica of Bellator with chapel of Jucundus, Basilica of Vitalis, Basilica of Servus, Basilica of Gervase, Protase, and Tryphon
After 439-533/534: Vandal rule
Briefly the capital of a small, independent state, led by the exarch of Carthage, Gregory the Patrician, who fights against the Byzantines and Arabs
647: Gregory is killed in action. Kairouan is the new capital of Ifriqiya
