  Allready occupied in the thirteenth century BCE
• Meaning of the name: Village of Nahum
• c.200 BCE Real settlement, stretched along the shore of Lake Galilee
• Part of the realm of Herod Antipas; there was a customs office^note[Matthew 9.9.] and a synagogue, paid by a centurio.^note[Luke 7.5.]
• Mentions as the place where Jesus was "at home";^note[Mark 2.1; Matthew 9.1.] also the hometown of fishermen like Simon (Peter) and Andrew.^note[Mark 1.21, 1.29.]
• In the early fourth century CE, Jews forbade non-Jews to live there, but this changed. in the course of the fourth century, visitors came to the town, which prospered (better buildings); a new synagogue was built and a church stood on the house of Peter (mentioned by Egeria)
• Sixth century: the church on the house of Peter has become a basilica
• The synagogue and the basilica were destroyed at the beginning of the seventh century, perhaps by the Sasanian Persians
